Naiya Speight-Leggett
College/Class Year: Hopper, 2019
Hometown: Washington, D.C.
Naiya has been dancing since before she could walk and absolutely loves the art form. She grew up in the studio, receiving formal training in ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, contemporary/lyrical, modern, and some hip hop (success rate here is questionable but increasing!). Naiya has studied with and modeled for The Washington School of Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, The Ailey School, and Capitol Movement Pre-Professional Company, both during the year and on full merit scholarships for Summer Intensives in New York. Her favorite guest performances are: the TWB 50th Anniversary series of "The Nutcracker," the lilac fairy variation at The National Cherry Blossom Festival, and “Thriller” at The White House Halloween Party. Junior year of high school, Naiya received the National Society of Arts & Letters Award for Excellence in Dance and, jr. & sr. years, scholarships at NYCDA Baltimore. Naiya hopes to continue work with Brown Girls Do Ballet and is so grateful for her YD family.
